Wanted to do something fun on the The 4th of July so decided to climb Redcloud and Sunshine. Along for the climb was Josh who has never climbed one before. Hit the Silver Creek - Grizzly Gulch trailhead at 0630 and a cool 38 degrees. Saw summit21's vehicle at the trailhead parking lot so we quickly headed up hoping to meet up with him. Made it up to treeline in just over an hour.
We eventually met up with summit21 before we hit the ridge. As we continued up we saw several signs which pointed to the more than obvious trail and wondered if this was really necessary (Leave no trace vs erosion control ) After maintaining a fairly steady pace we summited Redcloud in about 2.75 hours after we started, Josh's 1st 14er! Congratulations Josh!
After a few pictures and talking to some others on the summit we were off to Sunshine Peak.
The well marked trail took us past an interesting sign which actually is the North Slopes route.
When we arrived at the summit of Sunshine just under an hour later, we learned of a flyover that was supposed to take place as part of the Lake City 4th of July festivities at 1000. After eating a snack, taking a few summit pictures and waiting around awhile we decided to depart. Oh ya, and Congrats to Josh on his second 14er too!
Josh and I headed back the way we came and Summit21 joined another group going down the North slope.
Arrived back at the trailhead just after 1330 after a day with perfect weather and an awesome day in the mountains.

Great day, Kris. The North Slope descent was very loose and a little steep, but not too bad. Shaved about 45-50 min. off my descent vs. you guys. Nice TR.
Nice report, we met you guys at the top of Sunshine Peak. We went down the North Slope with summit21. I agree, it was not bad and it saved a lot of time. I just added a report on it.
