 not for kids

Maybe it is because im only 13 but it wasnt the easiest of the mountains I climbed. There was still a lot of snow and when we got to the main trail it was scrambling on all fours. From the saddle, or what ever it is called, we went left up a gully then up another gully to the far left, let me tell you it was kinda hard climbing up a rock face.I dont want to discurage you but it isnt a climb for kids. Fun when we got to the top though

Sounds like a tough day! Sometimes other climbers, and even parents, push their friends and their kids to do things that are outside their comfort zones, or even beyond their abilities. When I climb with people who push me too hard, I find other people to climb with. Unfortunately, if you were with your parents, you might be stuck with them as climbing partners, at least for a while. But you can and should have a frank discussion with them about how you felt. A great summit doesn‘t make up for a scary climb.

I hope this doesn‘t sour you from hiking, climbing, or 14ers, though. There are a whole lot of peaks in Colorado that are perfect for a 13-year-old. Some of them are 14ers, and some are not, and many have summits that are every bit as spectacular as the top of Sneffels. In the meantime, you might encourage your parents to reconsider your safety and well-being when selecting future climbs, and also think about enrolling yourself in a youth mountaineering course. Self-preservation is a critical skill in mountain climbing, and if Mom and Dad are too focused on the summit to look out for you, you need to start looking out for yourself.

It‘s for anyone...

I think that anyone any age can do anything they want to! I also think that parents make great climbing partners and do not pressure the kids to go... the kids want to go. I‘m 14 and have done 48 14ers... Longs Peak at age 6. I wanted to go! Anyone can do it (safely too) with the right training and dedication.
