 Mt. Bierstadt - standard route

Gorgeous weekend! This was my son's (age 10) first 14er on his own two feet! The route was pretty wet in many places. The willows area had a few large muddy patches. Over 13,000ft early in the morning there was a thin layer of ice in places on the trail. Two sizable snow patches. Everything was passable with just hiking boots and careful stepping. VERY crowded on the summit. Later in the morning on the descent all the ice had melted, so that meant more mud on the trail. The weather couldn't have been better. Altogether great day!

EDIT: photos added 9/20/12:

Georgetown-Guanella Pass road closed.

I discovered it Saturday, June 26. What a bummer! The road is closed several miles below the Guanella Pass summit due to a rockslide. The only access to the TH is from CO 285.
