Quandary Trip Report

Climbers/skiers: Tele Tim, BCDave, The Crow

Equipment: Ice axes, whippets, skis

This was not our first trip of the year. We snuck out to Pikes Peak a few weeks ago and hit the chimney couloir. We did not do a TR for that. The highlight of that day was "The Crow" making is maiden journey into the backcountry. Congratulations to The Crow.

Onto Quandary (14,265) and it's famed Cristo couloir. We have been eyeballing this shot for a few years. It needs a good snow season to go from the top and this was a good snow season (later in the year). We decided to hit the trailhead at 0530. We would climb what we intended to ski, starting at 11,600 and stomping our way to the summit. The goal would be to ski the corn before the sun turned it to slush.

Total time on the mountain was just at 5 hours. The climb took about 2 hours 40 minutes. The wait up top was a little more than an hour. Then came the ski and a short bushwhack back to the truck.

Looks like fun. How was the snow coverage over to Fletcher?
