 Bierstadt on a Saturday

Well it was a good day for the Coopers on bierstadt last Saturday. My brother and nephew came out to visit and do a little climbing. Now my brother has done several 14ers with me but this time was different. This time we would be taking our 7 and 8 year old boys so we decided to pick an easier and closer climb than we have in the past.

After surviving a lot of rain the night before we arrived at the trailhead at 6:30am along with the entire population of Denver. I was glad to see so many people out enjoying the Colorado I know and love, I was just amazed that they all decided to do the same peak at the same time. Seriously, it was crowded.

As we started up the boardwalk there was a family of moose playing in the brambles. Fun to watch but it was still a bit dark to get a good picture. The pictures I took looked more like a version of the Bigfoot pictures. All fur and blur.

Overall the climb was as straight forward as I remember and the company, while plentiful, was helpful and friendly. My nephew fell on his rear on the way down because it was still slick from the snow and cried a bit as every kid that age does. And no fewer than 15 people stopped and tried to help him. So if you are wanting to have peace and quiet, not for you. If you want to have a fun hike with a few hundred of your closest friends, this is for you.

As an FYI to those going out that way, there is a road closure on Guanella pass road out of Georgetown until 10/1/09.
It is shut down M-F 8am-11am and 1pm-3pm

Here is my son's pictorial trip report:

Climbing Bierstadt was fun.

We saw three moose when we started the hike to the top.

The boardwalk with Cam and I.

Cam in the snow on the way up.

Summit proof. Now I get to do Democrat next week with mom!

Colorful bunch of people on top. Cam was not feeling that good.

Feeling better and acting goofy

The Crew on the way down

The lake and parking lot on the way down.
