UN 12,942ft - Maroon Bells - Snowmass Wilderness

Most of you have never climbed/hiked this particular peak because its not a 14er, or 13er, so I guess it has no real value to you I would say. So why did I choose to do it, one reason and that is....I wanted to get a unique angle of North Maroon Peak at sunrise. I attempted this same shot a couple of years ago but was unlucky with the conditions.

My main attempt the last year or so has not been to hike 14ers but to capture unique angles of them when possible, you can see some of my shots so far here.

My route and destination. It took my just shy of 4 hours to make it up. I had about 1 hour of rest at camp before the weather came in and it started to snow/sleet for the next fews hours. Sunset was a bust due to the conditions. 3am I woke up needing the bathroom, I crawl out of my tent to peaceful calm conditions, the stars were just amazing.
About an hour later I awoke again to hike the final part upto UN12,942ft for sunrise, by this time some clouds had rolled in and the wind had picked up.

I have never been a man of many words so I let my pictures tell the story.

That is an awesome conditions report! Though it would never be me, I‘m glad someone is willing to provide beta in this way. This is going to be very useful to somebody I know...

Thanks for making the sacrifice for some great photos. Mission accomplished.
This year, I've made 24 summits "of no real value" for discussion, due to their being 12k or less. None of them was cool in the slightest

Nice, refreshing perspective on that area with a much less popular route - great pictures.
IMHO, 12ers can actually be BETTER than 13ers or 14ers, depending on your objectives.

Notch Mountain last summer?

Great pictures! You look familiar...did you happen to haul a big old 8x10 camera up to the notch mountain shelter last summer to get those pictures of the holy cross?

I just climbed that mountain on the 28th of this month! I watched the sunrise from it‘s neighbor 12,940.

Nice trip report. I always wanted to return back to the parking lot the way you did after doing Buckskin Benchmark. Nice job.

I think this is all that‘s out there for recent Capitol beta. Thanks a lot. I love cranking on smaller peaks.

What a great idea to photograph these 14ers from out -of-the-way places. Great work! You have a gift.
