 Lindsey - North Face

It was my first time up Lindsey and have never been in that area before. The road was blocked by a downed tree about a mile from the end adding about 2 miles to the round trip hike. Even if the tree wasn‘t there, there were snow drifts that make the road impassable right now.

I did this one solo but was able to follow some 3 day old tracks from someone who also had done it solo. Route finding was a little tricky since here was a lot of snow. I was also glad to have my snowshoes as the snow was deep in spots. I managed to drop my ice axe somewhere on the trail so the next trail user will be in for a treat if they go the same way I went.

I didn‘t bring my crampons for this one but could have used them up high in the snow gully. I used the previous climber‘s steps and that was fine. Very nice day, warm and windy and I was the only person on the mountain. If you go soon, definitely bring snow shoes or skiis. My treking poles worked well as a backup after I lost my axe.

That info is helpful since we are trying to plan a hike up Lindsey in about 3 weeks or so. I‘ll keep an eye open for your axe and PM you if I happen to find it. (Doubtful, but keep your fingers crossed!)

Thanks for posting, Todd. So were you able to drive all the way to or past the Lower Huerfano TH (there‘s a sign for Zapata and Huerfano trails)?
