Nice job. Any chance you took a photo of the terrain on Evans above Abyss Lake (right of the Sawtooth)? I‘m considering a ski of Bierstadt from the summit down to Abyss Lake and then climb back up to the flat area between Evans and the Sawtooth, for a descent of Gomers Gully.

This shot is about the best I have. I did glance off the summit down the line towards Abyss and the skiing looked super rocky and talus studded, Carl and I entertained the idea of giving it a shot until we decided a nice, early evening with the wives sounded more appealing.

That helps a lot! I was hoping for snow and there it is on the left side of your photo. That would be a good way to climb out if the snow is firm.


I‘m considering a line along the ridge leading to the Sawtooth. Based on DHatfield‘s photo, it looks like it has quite a bit of snow left:

I climbed that route on Bierstadt in snow last year when I droped over the sawtooth. Thought it would make a nice ski and was planning to wait until the Evans road opened to the summit to make it pretty easy but Bierstadt Friday afternoon just made sense. Also wanted to be there when Ben tried out for his Guanella Pass construction stop sign holder job.

on the summit Ben, good thinking. I ate a double cheeseburger from McDonalds on top of Sneffels last year and felt pretty phenomenal.

How did you manage to keep that ok to the summit?! I like the caption at the bottom (photo and consumption). Classic. Nice to have this one done after work - wish I could have been there!

contrary to vegetarians beliefs, red meat and swine stays good for a good long while w/o refigeration. If not, it only puts some hair on your chest. Its all about building up a tolerance.

was pulled out of Brian‘s pack much to my surprise, but as result of excellent planning the day prior. Good thing Ben was standing so far away from me with that blue cheese bacon burger or I would have managed to get more than a single bite out of it.
