 To the Top of Princeton

Mt Princeton

Beth C an I got a late start on Princeton, after being able to drive all the way to the radio towers. We started around 10:15 and hit some snow banks on the road only a 1/4 mile after our hike in. There wasnt any difficulty crossing those banks and took a rest at the turn off of the road. The snow covered the turnoff but it was easy to pick up the trail on top of the ridge. As we started to cross the backside bowl we encoutered some steep snowfields and used our ice-axes for balance. The snow had been coming down in little flurries which made route finding a little difficult to reach the ridge that connects to the top. It cleared up just enough for us to make it to the top of the ridge and push on toward the summit. On the summit ridge the snow and wind dramatically increased. We were being hammered. We only stayed on the top for short 10 minutes and then headed back down. We were sliding all over the place and Beth put on the crampons for safety. Once we got back down to the road we were good to go. Total time 8 hours round trip. Then off to the hot springs.
