 Democrat SE face ski/snowboard descent

Dan (DL Alma), Joe (JPJibSkier), and I parked on the Kite Lake road at 7:30 at started hiking up. The road was snowed in approximately 2.75 miles below the summer trailhead, which added to our trip time. The snow on the road was sparse in some spots and deep in others, and we were able to stay on snow for the entire hike up to the lake. On the way back down some sections of the road had melted out and we were forced to hike those parts. The ski down the SE face was great, and we were surprised to find that the steepest portion of our descent was about a 30-40 foot section of a 55 degree pitch. See Dan‘s trip report for current snowpack assessment ( )

looks like a quiet day on a popular peak. Snow season on the 14ers is a beautiful thing, ya?

yea snow climbs really are great, we only saw one other person all day, plus I got to snowboard AND we didn‘t have to walk all the way down the mountain! So much better than summer climbs...
