Congrats, Kevin & crew! I‘d read about this route, but this TR helps a lot. (Not sure about all that wallowing, though...) One Q: Why didn‘t you follow the road from the 1st too the 2nd reservoir? It looks easier on the map.

Thanks, Patrick. The bushwacking and snow depth around the 1st reservoir was pretty mellow, so we didn‘t feel the need to take the road since it was a bit indirect. This route would go pretty quick in the summer since it‘s a pretty mellow climb, but obviously you are above treeline for a long time.

I did that route a few years ago, Kevin, and was stopped by a woman with a big ugly Rottweiler. After I talked her down (the woman, not the Rottweiler) she calmly retreated and let us pass... not at all like the nice landowners who nailed us a few weeks ago, and then proceeded to invite us in for hot cocoa!

What a great route (my personal favorite) and really nice report and photos... will have to try that one again!

Excellent trip report and thanks for sharing Kevin!! Congrats guys on a long day!! Its good to now have new way up Pikes Peak that I haven't done before and the scenery up West Fork looks incredible so I hope to do this soon!! Nice job on picking up a few little prizes, Little Pikes and Devils Playground, on the way out. Sounds like a long tough day though. Great photos too!!!
