Western State Peak is the unofficial name of UN 12,779', which is directly across the East river valley from the Crested Butte ski area. Full TR:

I am in that area quite a bit. My sister lives in CB South. Was‘nt there a large slide in that area last year set off by some skiers? Looks like the snow was great for you though.

The slide was a little West of where we were, in the ”big bowl”. If you scroll to the bottom of this entry , there are some photos from the CB avalanche center. Pretty stable conditions right now, thankfully.

Great picture. Thanks for the putting them up. My parents live in Gunnison and they had more snow there than they have had on record. I was over there shoveling a lot.

Hey gb, I‘m going to Western State now. You skied our mountain! lol

Just so you know, I‘m getting ready to try backcountry skiing... haven‘t done any yet but I‘m looking for a more experienced partner. Let me know if you wouldn‘t mind having a rookie tag along at some point.
