 Yale loop

finally got to the top of Yale, third try, 18 Jan 2009. Took 9:06 total, but I did the loop. Ascended Denny creek, descended east ridge and Avalanche gultch. I would have been hopelessly lost on descent below treeline if I hadn‘t done the Avalanche gultch trail up to the saddle on 11 January. The trail in avalanche gultch is very ahrd to follow once it hits the woods and stops switchbacking. Once I crossed the creek on the trail abotu 1.5 miles in, I took a hard right and deliberatly left the trail to follow a narrow ridgeline. That was the right decision, and eventualy led me to the saddle. But if I had not done that prep trip (to the saddle) the week before, I never woudl have found the route on my decent from teh east ridge.
The east ridge is nothing special. Just kind fo tortuous scree and unchallenging rocks/ dirt. Nothing over class 3, very little exposure, but work. I don‘t recommend it.
4:46 from Denny creek to peak
2:20 from peak to saddle
1:42 from saddle to Avalanche gulch TH. Only becasue I knew where I was going, could have been 5 hours, easy
My weather was great, I could even spot my snowshoes tracks from the week before in spots, which helped. Snowshoes are an absolute must. Did not use my crampons or ice axe at all, but I had great conditions.
