 East ridge

Just a few notes if anyone is interested in hitting this awesome trail before winter gets here. There is currently no snow blocking any of this route but it ‘s important to note the Rangers have CLOSED the road three miles back from the trail head.

You‘ll have to park at the Summit Lake parking lot and hump it up the asphalt (not my ideal start or finish to a hike)

Also when you begin the decent it‘s easy to mistake one of the ridge‘s most prominent points as the summit, but this is basically a half way point only so don‘t be fooled.

On the route back (if you decent by scrambling down the side as I did) it‘s easier to cross the lake by hopping stones. This will bring you through lush grass and eventually a small trail that leads right back to the base of the 800 foot gully you must now ascend to get back to the road. (After a hour of hopping atop boulders this route is a welcome change!)

Have a great winter!

-Chris

Evans road closure a bummer

I would definitely do this one again, even this year, if I wouldn‘t have to come up the road from Summit Lake. I agree that this is a good one, and close to Denver to boot.
