 Huron Peak Standard Route

Took the 4X4 trail up to the trail head and did some car camping on Friday night. The road wasn‘t too bad, we did it in a stock Tahoe without any trouble, but we did have to take our time to not hit the underside, it was quite rocky and a bit narrow in places, had to keep an eye out for pullouts for passing other folks on the road.

I think we started up the trail about 6:30, ran into some nice people along the way. Of course we had to take the customary shot of the Three Apostles when they came into view. It was really a beautiful day.

There was a lot of wind, especially when we left treeline and along the ridge above the basin. But the trail is in great shape and easy to follow. Hats off to the CFI folks and all the work they do to preserve these peaks. We hit the basin about 8:30 and the saddle about 10:00.

This was April‘s first 14er (hiked anyway), and I think it was about here that she asked if this was supposed to be fun or if we are all just a bunch of masocists. But she did great and pushed on to the summit which we hit around 10:30. The sky was clear and the view was great. Funny enough the wind wasn‘t bad at all on the summit.

It was nice to just take in the views that surrounded us on every side. Pointing out other peaks and dreaming of climbing the next one.

We stayed on top for about 30 minutes and then headed back down. Took a long break for lunch in the basin, and then worked our way back down the switchbacks and got back to the car around 2:00.

Probably the best peak I have done yet. Great views, great trail, great weather, and great company. Its always wonderful to get out and see the beautiful state we live in, and enjoy Gods creations. And it was succesfull because April wants to do it again.
