Grays Peak Standard Route - Night Hike

After Hiking Grays and Torreys Peak last year during the day, I thought it would be fun to do Grays at night....and it was.

I drove up to the trailhead and parked around 1230am. I took my 1992 Olds up the trailhead and was the only car by the time I left the next morning, thata girl.

I woke up at 3 and was on my way by about 3:15 am up the trailhead.

Since it was dark the whole time (I hiked under the 3/4 full moon, post full moon), I have few pictures till sunrise, but it was gorgeous. The stars were fully out and dead winds.

I summited at about 5:07 am and waited for the sun to rise.

Wait for it.

Here is an image with me and the sunrise, what an experience, if you haven't done this, it is quite amazing. I was the only person on the entire mountain.

I started my hike down and passed around 30 people and a mom/kid mountain got.

I arrived back at my car at about 7:30 am and drove home for a much needed nap.

That‘s cool! I started hikes in the dark, but not summiting. Now I have something new to try. Maybe when I get around to those ”Front Rangers”.
