 Democrat on a snowy night.

Hiked Democrat with a friend from work on Friday night Saturday morning. We started about 10pm on Friday night and reached the summit about 12:15 Saturday morning. The snow became pretty intense after we left the saddle. There was a flash of lightening when we were making the final assault above 14k feet. We hustled on up to the summit, paused for about 2 seconds and started heading back down. We had a little trouble finding the trail when we dropped over the first ridge but we were able to traverse southward and pick it back up. When we returned to the saddle we began our ascent up Cameron but called it off when we were about to regain the ridge at about 14k feet. The lightening came back and was getting pretty intense. From that point on we would have been exposed for several more hours.

That was my 4th time for Democrat. I have only hiked it once without snow. My friend was scared for his life on the descent but I think he has gotten over it by now. We returned to the trail head a little before 4am. There were maybe a half a dozen groups camped out at Kite lake. I don‘t know if any of them gave it a try or not.
