 Mt. Sherman with 3-year-old

I climbed Mt. Sherman with my 3-year-old son on my back and it wasn't that difficult. The weather at the 12,000 foot gate was 51 degrees at 8am, with a moderate overcast.

I was amazed by the sheer number of wildflowers - really a great time of the year to really enjoy the scenery.

With the cool temperature, the climb was rather easy until you reach the two large ice/snow patches half way up the mountain.
There appeared to be a number of people who fell victim to the ice and slid a few hundred feet to a reasonably safe stop. After the ice patches, the trail was in excellent condition. The sun appeared from behind the clouds upon reaching the top, where approx 30 people has summitted prior to us.

Overall it was a very pleasant day for a hike. The weather did start to turn unpleasant around noon, however, there were still a large number of people who just started the trek toward the summit - not advisable.

Good father/son time and in a great way. Noticed you are new, so welcome to the site.

The slides you probably saw were intentional (glissading). This is where people sit down on the snow and descend very quickly. Something that is very popular in the Spring and early fall and Sherman is known as a fairly safe place to do it. If you want to try it I would at least read about it before trying it as it can be dangerous. Nice first report.
