After I did Grays my first 14er in June, my daughter (age 8 ) wanted to do one also. With her in mind, I decided to give Sherman a try due to it's short length and small elevation gain compared to others.
We left Denver at 4:30 Sunday morning to head for the Fourmile Creek TH. I opted to pull off the road to the right maybe a quarter of a mile shy of the 12,000 gate.
We left the vehicle at 7:30.
The trail was very easy to follow up past all the mine ruins.
We hit 2 small snowfields after we passed the Hilltop Mine and approached the saddle between Sheridan and Sherman.
The ridge had a little bit more exposure than I would like to see considering hiking with my daughter, but it wasn't too bad. This picture doesn't do it justice.
After a couple of false summits, we reached the high-point at 11:30.
Victory! It was such a thrill to share the experience with my daughter. I am so proud that she was able to do it.
After spending 15 minutes "on top of the world" as she called it, we decided to head down. 2 hours later we we back at the vehicle.
We even got in a glissade! We found this trough carved out by others before us and gave it a try.

My son did his first 14er at age 8 and it was such a proud moment for him and myself. It turned into a great father/son outing. Understand any pride you could be feeling. Even Sherman can be a tough climb. Great job.
Awesome trip with your daughter! I know how it feels too... I took my daughter (9) on her fist 14er this summer a few weeks ago. Memories last forever. Way to go dad!
