First Trip Report
First Ski Decent

The day started at 6:00 am off of I-70 at the Bakerville exit.

From here Gary, Cody and I started the climb to summit of Torreys. The willows above the summer parking lot we still quite buried only the very tops were exposed, skinning was not a problem though this section. Once we got around the base of Kelso MT we had our fist view of both Grays and Torreys.
Here the normal view, note the sign

And the current view, still a lot of snow on the ground, yep, same sign

We choose to fallow the summer trail to the saddle instead of boot packing up Dead Dog though it probably took longer and forced up to do some tricky traverses.

Some skinning stoke

Lunch was had in the saddle in a spot blocked from the wind. We got to the summit at 12:45 and quickly locked the binding in ski mode and took off the skins and made out way to the entrance of the couloir. I was exhausted by the time we stared our decent and it took me some time to get down. The snow in the couloir was nice on top, almost powder but as you went down further the new snow was sliding quite easy, probably the top 6". The areas that had cleared off was quite sun baked, bump skis would have been nice. As expected there was a ton of slide debris at towards the bottom

Looking down the couloir

Here's Gary and Cody making their entrance

After the decent we cut down the drainage to avoid skinning on the decent, took these pictures.

Once we got back to the car boots (alpine boots that is) were the first to come off, I now have identical blisters on both heels. All in all it was a great day and a perfect way to close out the 07/08 ski season

I hope my picture loading skills were up to par
