Saturday morning we set out for the Emperor and Eroica routes on Torreys - both of which can been seen from I70. The mostly snow covered road was passable by high clearance vehicle to the junction for Grizzly Gulch. We started skinning from there and were treated with an excellent view of the routes.
Marc broke off early and went to climb Eroica to Kelso Ridge, while me, Tim, and Dave (BCDave on 14ers) continued towards Emperor. Tim and I checking out the route.
We skinned up the Emperor drainage for a while then choose to traverse right and climb the ridge instead. Some hikers across the drainage before they dropped in for their climb.
Crampons weren't needed, but the new snow made breaking trail a chore. Tim enjoying the staircase.
While Dave keeps on building it.
Perfect weather made for a great day of snow climbing.
I think the route peaked at about 45 degrees.
Marc had deep snow to break through on Kelso, but still smoked us to the summit and was full of energy when I arrived.

I put the skis on up top, posed for the summit pic, and skied down to the Dead Dog entrance.
Marc carried his board down. I also included this one for those interested in conditions on Kelso ridge.
Tim and Dave hung out on the summit for a bit while Marc and I checked out Dead Dog. The avy concern was mainly the new snow as we felt comfortable the pack hadn't warmed enough for wet slides. At least a few had enjoyed turns in it already, but the conditions were excellent and we found good snow on the side. Sticking to the side also made it more natural to ski from safety to safety, as the first pic shows the folks before us most likely did too. I only got a few inches on the top to move, it was a small area, and didn't run.
Clouds rolled in as we dropped.
We got on the radio and Tim and Dave headed over for Dead Dog too.
