 Mt. Sherman - Fourmile Creek

Camping: Click here for my camping report

Getting there: Click here for my road condition report.

Trail: The trail in the area is rather confusing. I forgot my map back at the camp site and was really kicking myself for not bringing it. There are bunches of mine roads scattered throughout the area and there are a couple different peaks (some of which look taller than Sherman). We ended up just following the masses, which led to some unnecessary scree slope climbing and a small snow field traverse. After reaching the ridge/saddle south of Sherman we were able to get back on track and follow the trail to the summit. It was a beautiful day with no clouds in the sky, so we hung out for an hour and enjoyed the views.

My hike:
Start: 7:15 am
Summit: 9:30 am
Leave summit: 10:30 am
Back to car: 12:15 pm
Total hike: 5 hours

Lessons Learned (to a beginner from a beginner):
1. Always bring a map. Even if you forget it at the camp site that is a mile or two away, go back and get it before starting on the trail.
2. Don't just assume the people in front of you know where they are going. It can easily turn into the blind leading the blind.
Although we got lucky and made it to the top, its not worth taking the risk of ruining your day by not bringing a map and following it. I learned my first big fourteener lesson and was fortunate enough not to have learned it the hard way.
