 Shavano/Tabeguache-Standard Route

I am going to give this a first trip report!!!

My boyfriend (Scott) and I decided to attempt number three and four of the summer!!!!!! It was a great day to hike!

The Shavano standard route is completely free of snow. Yes, there are two small patches, but you can walk right around them. Here is a view of Shavano.

There really isn‘t a trail down Shavano to the saddle, but the rocks are very stabble and we didn‘t have any problems. When you get to the saddle of Shavano and Tab you will hit a snow field. Here is a picture of the snow field and the rest of Tab.

That is the only snow field I crossed today. There is another snow patch on the ridge to Tab. I personally don‘t like hiking through snow fields on ridges, so I scrambled up to the left of the snow field. Scott went through the snow. He went in about knee deep a few times, but nothing major. Both ways were pretty easy. Here is a view of Antero from the summit of Tab.

Yes the hike back over Shavano wasn‘t a whole lot of fun. However when you are hiking with these "friends", it makes it better!

It was a LONG day and the ride back to the Springs didn‘t make the day any shorter. However it was a BEAUTIFUL day to be on the mountains!!!!
