 Sunlight-Chicago Basin

A couple of friends and I (Eric and Terrence) were in Chicago Basin over the weekend so I thought I would post a brief TR. We caught the train in Silverton on Friday and hiked up to the Basin with heavy packs (skis+boots+avy gear). It was a bit of a slog, to say the least. Image Saturday we climbed up the headwall and started skinning just above 12k feet. Image We only managed to summit Sunlight (we had planned on Windom as well), between the snow conditions, weather and fatigue we decided to play it safe. Image On the summit block (challenging in tele boots). Image Sunlight spire and Windom Peak. Image Eolus. Image Skiing in the upper basin.
Sunday the weather wasn‘t great and the three of us were lagging so we decided to back off Eolus and hike down. It was the right choice but I was a bit disappointed that I didn‘t have the juice to complete the climb. Regardless, the trip was fantastic and we didn‘t see another person until we got back to Needleton. This is a great trip in the spring snow. Image Idle hands...
