”This class 2 hike is a full, long day at 10 miles and 4800 feet of gain” - summitpost

I have done the route and think 5200 is liberal

1000 up and down is what I got, your lower start completes the puzzel. Long day, way to get it.

Calculation:
11/30/2010 5:28pm
Columbia summit: 14,073 ft.
Trailhead*: - 9,200 ft.
Total Net gain: = 4,873 ft.

Then add about 1,000 ft. for the ups and downs (it was calculated via GPS). It appears Summitpost lists net gain.

*We started a little ways below the actual trailhead because there was a large downed tree blocking the road. Also, 9,200 is approximate because I don't remember the exact elevation and haven't uploaded my GPS data to my computer yet.

Thank you.

Long Day

Nice trip report Dave, it was a great start to my 14er season. I'll confirm the elevation gain and distance. It was a LONG day of bushwacking and I'd be surprised if our route sees much, if any, foot traffic. The absolutely perfect weather made for a great day in the mountains. Enjoyed meeting each of you guys and hopefully we can meet up for some more climbs this summer.
