 Mt. Sherman Ski Trip

As promised in the forum, a friend of mine and I hiked up and skied down Mt. Sherman on Saturday. Below is a brief recap of the trip. If you‘d like to see pictures and a more detailed report, go to .

Approaching from the Fourmile Creek TH on the SE side of sherman, we were able to drive to within about 1 mile of the summer trailhead. We pushed the road as far as we could with my 4-Runner, finding it mildly difficult to turn around when we could go no further. After about 1.5 miles of slogging up the road, near treeline, the snow disappeared and we hiked on exposed rock most of the way to the summit.

The wind was attrocious from start to finish, which explained why there was no snow on the upper reaches of the mountain (sustained 60 mph, no real gusts to speak of). From the top, we hiked south back to the saddle before beginning our ski descent - this was the first and longest patch of skiable snow. As expected, the snow was highly windblown, crusty, and inconsistant. Linking up skiable snow lines, we were able to ski about 2/3 of the descent.

I hope this provides some useful information for someone else planning a similar trip. To summarize, snow pack and conditions were not ideal, but there was enough to make it worth hauling skis up the hill. Great tirp all things considered!
