 Quandary Peak - East Ridge

Climbed Quandary Peak on Saturday morning with my son and three others. This was the 1st 14er climb for a friend and his two sons.

We had light snow at the outset, and the snowfall increased through the morning. We also encountered high winds, topping out at about 60 mph. I was knocked down by the wind on one occasion.

The weather cleared as we approached the 13,000 ft. mark and we were all able to summit. I was proud of the three boys, ages 10, 12 and 12 -- they persevered through some tough conditions.

The temperature was in the low teens at the summit, with the wind chill bringing it below zero. We huddled under the wind break for a snack and then headed back down the trail. There was nothing to see at the summit anyway, except swirling snow.

Conditions improved rapidly as we descended and we enjoyed the sunshine again for the last hour of the descent.

It was a wonderful hike. We saw maybe 20 people on the hike and enjoyed the relative privacy!

Congratulations to Kenny and his boys Danny (12) and Joey (10) on their 1st 14er climb!
