Can‘t find anything on Ellingwood. (from Lake Como)

Left the 2wd TH at 5:45am; all is good.

Arrived at Lake Como at 8:22am after 5.33 miles; joy and happiness.

Then it took me 3 hours to summit Ellingwood, most of the time spent hopping back and forth on the loose rock trying to find the trail. Colorado's worst routefinder strikes again. With all the non target aimed stuff I managed to sum up 17.3 miles, a very long day.

I finally got tired and just went straight up. Judging from my descent (where I found a trail, there are several, some are non-trails, like non-suches...) straight up might be about as good an option as any cairned trail. This mountain is loose, the cairned trails are loose, the non trails are loose. Very loose. Helmet is a good thing especially if you have people on the ridge above you doing the traverse from Blanca.

Side note; when I did Blanca in July I saw two guys doing the ridge traverse from Ellingwood to Blanca. One dude stepped on something that broke (just below the scar like gully on the ridge kinda right in the middle of the saddle) and brought down several SUV sized (Suburbans, not Escapes...) chunks of rocks over him before he vanished. I figured he was pulp considering the amount and size of the mountain bits pouring down in to the valley below however his friend fished him up just bloody and battered, as far as I could tell they then summited Blanca. Some guys have all the luck...

In this pic you can see the lucky guy counting his limbs after they yelled down that he seemed to be in all original condition and the dust settling over the scar that was torn in the mountain side. I bet the Forest service will slap him with a huge restoration fee, gonna take an army of workers to put all those rocks back in place...

Did I mention the rock is loose on Ellingwood? Not even the marmots hang out here.
