 Grays Peak-Stephens Gulch

Went up today- it was my first one. After doing some research, and checking out weather reports, I was not sure if it was meant to be. My wife and myself started out a little late, about 9:45am from the trailhead. I knew this was not good, but I work late, and did not get to sleep late last night. Never summiting one before I was going to be satisfied with halfway.NOT! Reached summit at around noon. Pretty tough ascent, but very beautiful. Biggest disappointment: NO GOATS!! I‘ve heard so much, and seen so many pictures I was ready to see them, but they weren‘t home. Once at the top, and settling down from the view, and the overwhelming sense of accomplishment that hits you when you first arrive at the top, we discussed the hike over the saddleback to Torreys. The clouds were moving in quick, and I have been caught in a high altitude electric storm before, I used my better judgement and descended. It was kind of a bittersweet feeling to leave without summiting Torreys as well. Oh well that leaves it for next time, and maybe there will be goats! Both my wife and I summited our first 14er today, and to be honest, I feel great! Looking forward to more!
