We were planning to do both the peak and the needle (not the traverse) from lower south colony lake on Saturday, but we didnt make good enough time up the peak so we came down from broken hand pass instead of summiting the needle. After dinner, the weather looked great and the pressure was rising so I decided I was going to climb Humbolt. I left from just below the lower lake at 640, and I was up the great trail to the saddle by. I climbed up the ridge on a pretty good route, but ended up going left around the false summit on a tiny trail instead of right (as Bill's route describes). I wouldn't recommend my route, as it got me into some crappy cliff bands I had to traverse. After about 10 minutes of this, I climbed a short class 3 gully to the ridge just past the false and took an easy trail to the summit. After 5 minutes on the summit, I headed back down. The views from the summit of the peak and needle as well as kit Carson and challanger in the dusk light were awesome. There is a very good trail around the other side of the false, which I descended via.
