 Pikes Peak - Crags Trailhead

On Friday night a couple of us went an camped out near the Crags trailhead. We camped about half a mile short of the campground. I actually thought the areas outside the campground were better places to camp as they were flatter. Anyway, we woke up at 5:45 on Sat morning packed up and started up the hike. Well, in our rush, we did not think to look at the map and of course missed the split in the trail. So I recommend to look at the directions before you go. You need to make a right turn just past the start of the trailhead which will put you on the right track.

So after our 1.5 mile detour we got back on track and made pretty good time. There was four of us and it took us 4.25 hours to make it to the top. The hike was fairly enjoyable until you are walking along the road with cars and motorcycles flying up the hill. It was a weird feeling getting to the top and having hundreds of people all around you snapping pictures. However, if you plan on doing this peak, do it soon to try to be the major rush of tourism IMO. Overall, fairly easy hike with some decent elevation gain.
