 Mt. Evans - Guanella Pass

A couple of us went and climbed Evans today before they opened up the road which will allow everyone to drive to the top of Evans. Overall, it took us about 8.5 hours to do the whole hike. We left the trailhead at 8 in the morning and did not find it too bad. The willows were the willows. You basically have to pick and chose your route. We then got up to the ridge line and there the wind was pretty stiff. It made for a fairly chilly day, but at least we were not super hot. My suggestion for anyone climbing this peak from this direction is to stay below the ridge, that way you are less exposed and won‘t have to lose elevation. Coming back down we continued further down the ridge in an attempt to avoid the willows, but we still caught part of them. Basically, its going to be wet and soggy anywhere you are in that area until everything melts. Definitely was a fun hike, and I would also recommend the Clear Lake campground and its was beautiful.
