Report:

I got to the parking lot a little after 6am - a decent amount of cars, but definitely not close to being full. Started hiking at 6:23am with the sun just starting to lighten up the sky (sunrise on this day was 5:43am). The initial ascent from the Berthoud Pass parking lot was a brutal start, but it gets a lot better shortly after turning into a mostly steady, light incline to Mt Flora. I chugged along straight to Mt Flora, telling myself I'll hit the Mines Peak on the way down (which I didn't end up feeling like doing later on). Along the way to Mt Flora, there wasn't a single cloud in the sky and there was essentially no wind. Made it up after about an hour and a half to Mt Flora where I took a quick water break and moved along to Mt Eva.

I started heading over to Mt Eva which there really isn't too much of a trail most of the way. You can somewhat see a beaten path but it isn't as clear as the trail to Mt Flora. I had a route saved on my phone so I made sure I was staying on a good path to Mt Eva. Also, my phone had pretty good cell reception for majority of the hike. In between the two, there are beautiful views of Ethel Lake, Slater Lake, Upper Chinns Reservoir, and Bill Moore Lake. There is a steep descent shortly after leaving Mt Flora that was brutal on my knees, I was not looking forward to going back up it. In this stretch, the wind was pretty strong. After about another hour and a half of hiking, I was at the summit of Mt Eva.

Moss Campion (silene acaulis) which is all over this hike! Super beautiful with all the wildflowers right now.

After about another 3 hours, I found myself back at the Berthoud Pass trailhead and successfully hiked my first two 13ers! Definitely will be checking out more 13ers! What are your favorites?
