climbed 10/16, 2005

Left Boulder a little after 5AM, and made it to the closure gate around 8:30. The last 2 miles of the 4x4 road was pretty sketchy, but absolutley doable in the Tacoma. Set off the trailhead at 9, and made it to the summit a little after noon. It wouldnt have taken quite so long, but there was a good amount of snow on the last 2000, so postholing it on up was slow and exhausting. The weather was quite amazing, 55 degrees, sunny and calm. There was no wind at the top, and the view was as clear as I can remember any summit being. We could pretty much count every single 14er in the sawatch, and even a San Juan or two. We had the whole mountain to ourselves, so a lot of yodeling was done to pass the time on the decent. Really fun mountain, especially in these varied conditions. We lucked out with the weather. All in all we did the hike in about 6 hours, with a good hour on the summit, and a few 15 minute food breaks up and down. Great day!
