Hiked this peak on Friday the 16th. I had to park just outside of Winfield because I have a sedan. The road up was very bumpy and coverd in whasboards. I began hiking at 9:30 up the forest road. Though I almost missed the first turn on the road, Bills directions are very good to follow. After a while in the trees, the road goes into a beautiful meadow. at the end of the road there is a gate with info signs. Look to your left for the trail. I almost missed it. I was amazed at the number of switchbacks on the trail. Overall the trail is one of the most environmentally sound trail i have every seen. The CFI has done a great job. Above tree line, I found great enjoyment in the view of the three apostiles as well as the tarn and surrounding flat area. I was in awe at the area being so flat right at the base of Huron Peak. It took a while to make the push to the summit, in fact 3 hours and 2 minutes after leaving my car I mad it to the top. The best part was I had the top to MYSELF. I loved the view. I felt so seculded on top of the mountain that is surrounded by so many high peaks. The treck down was long as well, as I was rather tired. Saw only about a dozen people the hole time and just above treeline too. The worst part of the hike was the two mile walk down the road to the car. Made it back in 2 hrs and 30 mins. Overall it was a great hike, yet long. Weather was perfect, with no threat of any bad weather. It was a bit cold with a chilly windchill. Great vies and wonderful colors. Gods creation is truely amazing!
