We did Sherman on Sunday, May 22nd 05, from the Iowa Gulch trailhead. We left the car at 6:30am and crossed the snow filled basin. Since the temps we cold, the snow was hard as a rock - perfect conditions. After crossing the basin, we took the snow filled gully upto the saddle. The ridge from the saddle to the summit had a fair amount of snow, but didnt present any problems as long as we stayed on the ridge. We reached the summit at 9:45am. It was amazing to see how much snow was still on the mountain ranges. What beautiful views!! Another couple from Nebraska joined us, and after 45 minutes, we began our way down the mountain. Glissading the gullys was a blast! By now, the temps we toasty and the snow was crap. Snowshoes were worthless. It was a post-holing journey across the basin. We lost incredible amounts of time, but finally made it back to the car around 1:15pm. We really enjoyed climbing Sherman. It was a beautiful day and we only ran into a couple other people.
