 Cielo Vista Ranch - July 21, 2005

I think David said it all with his TR above, so Ill just add a few things.

Its a little confusing about the exact route the ranch wants you to take. We basically took the route that Bill has posted on this site, but I think CFI is working with the ranch owners to develop the most eco-friendly and sustainable way up. The route might change totally by next summer.

The road to Fourway is an easy 4x4 road. Its steep and dusty, so it would be a real nightmare if it got wet and muddy.

All in all, Culebra was a more interesting mountain than I expected. The ridge was fun. Also, I met a lot of great people on the mountain. The highlight for me was watching a guy from Ohio finish all the fourteeners with this one. He started in 1980 and finished the other 53 by 2000, and had to wait 5 years to be able to get Culebra. The coolest thing is that he has never lived in Colorado - every 14er has been on trips for him. Quite an accomplishment.

Anyway, it was great to meet David and all the other guys on the trip. Culebra is definitely worth the $100.
