Summited Handies Friday Aug 19th via American Basin Trailhead

It was me and my sainted mother, although mother had no intentions of summiting due to a nagging ankle injury. The drive the the TH was absolutley awesome, part of the famous Alpine Loop from Silverton. The top of cinammon pass was breathtaking, and offered a great view of the top of Handies, my destination. After taking almost an hour to drive 12 miles, arrived at the American Basin TH at 9:45, set off at 10. My mom stuck with me to Sloans lake, rested there for a bite, and I shoved off. Summited at 11:45, and spent a nice, solitudinal 45 minutes or so at the top. Most spectacular views I have ever witnessed. The deal was crystal clear, no haze at all (which you get used to on the front range 14ers). Left when a gaggle of Wisconsiners got up (still cant handle those nasal)Took about an hour to get back down to the TH. Mom was napping in the car. All in all this was a very short, but extremely pleasant 14er. Made for a great day with my Mom.
