I hiked the road up to South Colony Lakes on 6/28 and climbed Humboldt on the 29th and then out. Overall this hike is similar in difficulty to Elbert or Shavano, there is no exposure and the route finding is easy. It is a long hike up the road, however, and on my way up I kept thinking over and over how nice it would be to own a jeep. By the way, the road is passable to most 4x4s and there are several places to park 2-3 miles up if you decide to stop along the way. Oh, the marmots are everywhere but I didnt see any chewing on brake lines. Go mid-week, the area is spectacular and rivals the Elks in terms of the dramatic views.
