 Sunshine Redcloud circuit

Pike and I wanted to ski down Redcloud and thought that starting with Sunshine would add some adventure, along with my faithful grand dog, Chopper. the shelf road to Silver Creek trailhead was dry, and sadly so was the first 1200 ft of the trail. So we carried our skis and boots to the confluence of South Fork, where a primitive trail headed towards Sunshine. At about 11,200 ft the trail disappeared beneath snow and we struggled on the hill side above to reach a beautiful campsite at 11,600 ft, looking up the easternmost gully off the summit of Redcloud, which appeared to be full of snow. The next mornning we put our skis on and skinned up the South Fork to the cliff band at 13,100 ft. There we found a narrow notch to boot pack up, and due to thin snow coverage, continued the boot pack up to the ridge line 300 ft below the summit of Sunshine. We choose to leave our skis there and tag the summit. When we returned to our skis, we put them back on and traversed on the snow filled trail to the summit of Redcloud. Then, the fun started. We had a glorious 2600 ft descent of perfect corn snow all the way down to our camp. Tired, we stayed another night there and walked out in the morning. If I were to do this again, I might go 3-4 weeks earlier, hoping to have skiable snow from the trailhead. And Chopper was a trooper!
