 James Pk, East Portal Trailhead

Got to Trailhead at 6:55AM. Road to Moffat Tunnel was great, no snow blockage at all. Trail is packed down pretty well up to heart lake and rogers peak lake so you can just use spikes instead of snowshoes to save your energy.(this is the option I chose). There is a lot of wind up there so the trail is winded away so you may have to make way without a trail. I recommend using snowshoes or skis with skins because you will sink down to waist level in the snow. (It was up to my waist when I fell in and I'm 6'4).The winds were brutal(40mph+) and the snow is 5ft+. I recommend if you want to summit, summit the south side. The path up to rogers pass is pretty much impossible with wind. If your lucky, and there is no wind, you can make it up the divide. Overall, pretty fun trip with my buddy.
