 Blanca Winter hike

Blanca Peak.

November 26th 2020. The Lake Como road is passable to 8800 ft. with a decent 4 wheel drive vehicle, my lifted Jeep 4 door made it without issue, I didn't continue further as the road was covered with a few inches of snow that would only get deeper as the mileage went on. I had all my winter gear, but didn't need snow shoes on the hike to Lake Como. I made camp at the lake for lack of fitness to go on with such a heavy load. As soon as I set up camp I was greeted by a mouse whom tried to get into my tent, having successfully fended him off I settled down for a nice winters nap. I took a rest day on Friday when the weather wasn't that great with high winds, but at least the near by stream outlet from the lake had not completely frozen over so I didn't have to melt snow so I was able to enjoy many hot drinks and a good book. Saturday turned out to be a great day to hike so off I went, I woke up later than I wanted but was on the trail by 6:30 AM. The snow got deeper the more I went along, and after having hauled my snow shoes to base camp, I didn't take them with me on the summit hike, boy that was dumb. Anyhoo... I plodded along until I reached the ledges and from there I went right instead of to the saddle because I wanted to try out some mixed climbing on the rock and ice faces, that turned out to be a huge time detour but none the less was fun until I finally made my way to a small saddle west of the summit, then up to the summit for a nice video Then it was back down to camp and out the next day. Apologies for the lack of photos, new phone takes 48MP shots as such has large file sizes. Thanks for reading and enjoy yourself out there and be safe.
