 E Ridge Up NE Down

20th peak over 12,979! I opted for Copeland after deciding that it would be easier / safer solo than Navajo or Ogallala. Copeland is a long hike with substantial vert. But the main hazards climbing Copeland are the bushwhack and isolation. In “Colorado’s Front Range Thirteeners” Wolfe calls the NE Ridge route “an infamous bushwhack”. No joke. Climbing from both the East and North East slopes requires a mile with 1k vert through dense forest littered with fallen beetle kill trees. You need to be competent in land nav and/or be proficient with your nav devices. The last couple miles of the approach are not highly trafficked. If you get lost, you are on your own. Enjoy the pictures!
