 Belford - NW ridge 8/18

Day Two - After surviving the near misses with storms on Huron the day before we left what I thought was plenty early. 7:00am...should have been 6 or 5am... August is much different than July...go figure.... All was well until we were about mi from the summit; a line of strong storms proceeded to consume the peaks to the west of us. After we made the summit, it consumed us.... we took cover in the shelter on the SE side of the Summit ridge. Had to opportunity to fellowship with three other hikers (Mark, Steve and Renee) Nice to meet you!! We also got our first hand look at a sleet/ thunder/ snowstorm from the inside. I was sure glad I had the Pastor from our church with us! We put them put the power of prayer to good use...Thanks Paster Rob! I'm glad it all worked out, sure would have hated to have been the one that lead him up the mountain, on his first/last 14er..... So after the storm cleared enough to see, we headed out down the back route through Elkhead Basin. What a great route!!
