Absolutely unknown that the first leg of the drive (up to and including 15GG) is in a Colorado wildlife area -- just magnificent views! The road through here is excellent -- I was driving 40-45 easily. The latter half of the drive (14DD) to the end is 99% great, driving around 30-35 mostly; a few spots in here you have to slow down, especially the last descent to the TH. Hike was long but fun -- fallen trees cleared, willows cut back. Amazing how decimated the forest is here ... just dead trees (mostly) due to the spruce beetle. There is a small, grassy knoll about a 1/2 mile or so from the start of 14DD that is a peaceful place for a lunch after the hike.
This is probably the most detailed report I€„¢ve ever seen of San Luis. San Luis guards its airy summit well, and this may help anyone looking to mount a free solo ascent on this dangerous peak! The detail regarding your vehicle speed is unprecedented! Truly data of cataclysmic proportions!!
I'm sensing some sarcasm in the comments... No appreciation for carefully crafted Beta!? This is just as informative as some of the best reports this site has to offer, INCLUDING Shermapangma and Pt 5770 B!! I'll hang up and listen
