Mt Evans via Mt Spalding, Summit Lake th. August 20 2005

Ok so I got lazy, this is what happens when you spend a week on the east coast with all that excess oxygen. Started at dawn and more or less jogged up to Spalding. Since Im directionally challenged I went up on the top of the ridge four times before I found West Evans, figured since the peak is listed on the maps one might as well put a foot on it. Met some very friendly goats that did not mind me taking 321 pictures of them while they were grazing about half a meter away. The goats had a kid with them that kept buffing up against my legs which made mama goat a tad concerned, fortunately she decided that I was harmless and did not attempt to kebab me. Leaving the goats I summited Evans in good order, only 2 cars parked and about a half dozen hikers. More goats on the summit, took another 456 pictures, they are cute. Was running late for a lunch meeting so I just ran down the straight trail to the parking, all in all a very easy and pleasant altitude readjustment hike. Views are good on the Spalding trail and this will be where I take really hesitant newbies to their first 14er experience.
