5/21/05 - South Gully from Blue Lakes Dam

Hiked up the South Gully from Blue Lakes Dam on Saturday. Gorgeous day. The route was mostly snowcovered, but was able to hike up the rock on the west side of the couloir. Had to cross over the snow in some spots. Snow was very soft--sunk all the way to my waist at one point. But hiked comfortably in shorts, gaiters and shortsleeves. A little less than three hours up (including a walk up the road as the dam is not accessible in a car).

Changed into Gore-Tex up top and glissaded down the couloir. Again, snow was a bit soft but fairly stable. 20 minutes to get down. So fun. Would definitely recommend the route as a late spring climb.
