Two friends and I drove up from Littleton on Teusday for a couple of days to escape from the Denver area (needed often!). We snagged one of the great campsites off the road to the Montezuma Mine (the on with the small pond). We threw the tent up, checked out the rest of the area, and headed into Aspen to see Soul Feel, a local delta blues band out of Glenwood. It ended up raining quite a bit that night, great for the western slope! We got back to our tent and hit the sack ready to get up and climb Castle Peak!
We got up at 6 and had a start on the trail from the 4WD TH at about 6:45/7. Not the best of early starts, but it got us to the summit! The entire trek was beautiful! Views from the saddleback were absolutly incredible, this peak was one guys first Fourteener, awesome first peak in my opinion...
The only thing that I think we were lacking were crampons, maybe not a necessity, but they wouldve come in handy in the snowfields rather than our mountaineering boots, hehe.
After a great trek to the summit we took off our outer jackets and used them as sleds through the snowfields, made for an easy down route, and a hell of a lot of fun!
