 #35 Uncompahgre Peak

#35 Uncompahgre Peak. Stayed in Lake City for 5 nights to complete the 5 14ers in the area. Mission completed and ended up doing over 50 miles and 18,500 elevation gain on mountain bike and foot. First night I camped at Grizzley Gulch to get Handies, Redcloud, and Sunshine. Then stayed in a VRBO Vacation Rental for 4 nights to rest and then get Wetterhorn and lastly Uncompaghre. Total cost of this vaca including all expenses gas, rental, food ect... was just under $1000 so pretty cheap and I ate well and stayed in a nice rental. Lake City itself is pretty cool there are no McDonald, no King Soopers, no chain anything. Everything was served by the owners. No light pollution so stars are out every night.

Started at the 2wd trailhead with the mountain bike. Took 1 hour 45 minutes to hike it up to the 4wd trailhead but only 25 minutes to ride it down.

Once over the hill turn a corner and the rock tower will be right in front of you

Multiple routs but I like the rock tower since it is quicker to summit. You can see here you climb to the right and then take a left once on top.

View out of the rock tower. I am looking straight here but cairns quickly took me right to the summit.

The blue sky was so radiant it was hard to keep my eyes on the ground and not in the sky the whole day. Took a lot of back glances to say bye to Uncompaghre and the crazy blue sky.
