 8/23 Nellie Creek

Got to Lake City evening 8/22, stayed at the Silver Spur, nice people, very basic rooms with a LOUD heater. Ate at Poker Alice and observed a mother bear and 2 cubs going through a dumpster at the service station across the street. Woke at 4:30 to the sound of pouring rain, glad we didnt camp, the rain stopped by 5 so we drove to the trailhead, good road description in the routes description with several Subarus at the trailhead (not a problem for my Land Cruiser). Left the trailhead at 6:20 and kept a steady pace with the only stop of any length to put on long pants and jackets as we approached the ridge. It was about 45 degrees with many clouds but none that looked threatening. New skiff of snow on most peaks over 13500 or so. Trail stright forward, great description on this website. The crux is actually fun and is a very short 2+ (maybe) scramble. Made the peak in 2 hours 5 minutes without pushing too hard. Visited with hikers from Denver, New Jersey and Arkansas, traded pictures and hiked down in about an hour and 45 minutes. My 34th, my friend Jennifers 8th. Rate it a 2 out of 10 difficulty of the ones Ive done so far, but a fun hike.
